Charles Curtis DeSherlia, 9 year old son of Charles and Catherine Blaney DeSherlia, was drowned in the Illinois River not far from Grafton Sunday afternoon while swimming with a number of other children of the Grafton vicinity.
Sunday afternoon the boy expressed a desire to learn to swim and entered the water of the river in company with Romie Womack, Leslie McCann and Alfred Calvin. The three named completed their swimming for the afternoon and got out of the water. The DeSherlia boy expressed the desire to continue in the water as he wanted to acquire further information relative to swimming.

Coroner Brewster held an inquest at Grafton Monday morning. The jury returned a verdict of death from accidental drowning.
