Verdict: By accidental injury due to horse falling on him resulting in shock and peritonitis.
Remarks: Was working at Lumber Camp on Louis Reisch Jr. farm 6 miles south of Eldred. Hitched up horse to drive home. Horse backed the rig off embankment and fell on top of occupants: the deceased and Ethel Fisher and her 3 yr. old child about 14 feet deep. Party layed in the road about 30 min. until W.C. Wood came along in car and got help. Camerer died about 2 days later.

Remarks: He had been sick for past 2 years and at times became despondent on account he thought he would never recover his health. He arose early in the morning and his wife was talking to him. Later he arose while she was sleeping in the same bed and he shot himself with the shot gun. She awoke and immediately jumped up asking him "what was that?". She found him dead at the foot of the bed.

Verdict: We the undersigned jurors sworn to inquire the death of Jas. R.F. Monroe on oath do find that he came to his death by a stab wound in the right side of his head. Stab wound extending 4 1/2 inches into the brain. Stab would was inflicted according to evidence by knife or sharp instrument by one Thomas Markinck on the night of Sat. Aug. 31, 1901. Other evidence shows that Mike English prevented Jas. Spiker from going to the rescue of deceased and that Mike English struck Jas. Monroe a number of blows with the butt end of a ___ out___ & we hold Mike English as accessing to the act.

Remarks: A post mortem examination was held on the body. Wound in right temble extending 4 1/2 into the brain also show contusions of face& right side of abdomen show traumatic injuries..the wound in the head or the one in the bowels were sufficient to cause death.

It is likely he had a dizzie spell and fell off under wheel of separator. Left side of head was crushed, death followed in few minutes after the accident happened.

But she did not reply. He then went to shake her to rouse her but found her dead. Himself, daughter Alta & Oscar Chism were present in the house when she died.

Remarks: The deceased took 10 gms of strychnine purchased to "kill the day" as she said. In the parlor of the Basham Hotel at 1 p.m. and lived in White Hall. She left a letter stating that she did the deed a/c of having been "crossed in love" by one Smith Franklin, a barber in Roodhouse. She was from an excellent family and was buried in Carrollton Cemetery by relations.
